Ephemeral

Fleeting short posts.

  • If you’re reporting on the immigrant experience in the US right now, and you interview Spanish speaking immigrants, please make sure you do an accurate translation.

“Tengo miedo” DOES NOT mean “I’m nervous”. It means “I am afraid.” Immigrants in the US right now are afraid.

  • In my lifetime I’ve lived under two authoritarian regimes.

Growing up, I watched México’s authoritarian government, led by the PRI (Institutional Revolutionary Party), rule through corruption, oppression, propaganda, and violence.

The US is the second authoritarian regime.

  • The TikTok ban is showing us that corruption and machinations are happening behind closed doors.

Fascists and Oligarchs have been laying the groundwork since Reagan, and now with the incoming administration, they’re going full tilt on consolidating power in a few and propping up a despot.

  • My new phone case. IYKYK 😍

Photo of a phone case with an image printed on it. The image is a black and white graphic of Truck-Kun with heart eyes about to isekai an anime girl in a school uniform. The girl is wearing headphones and is carrying a backpack.
  • Bad Bunny’s «DtMF» is the perfect song for the end of TikTok.

  • «Promise of Wizard» is this season’s «Bye Bye, Earth». IYKYK. 😏

  • Most of my posts on this platform were first posted on my website and then automatically cross posted to the Fediverse and Threads.

Since Zuck and Meta are following in Musk and xitter’s footsteps, I will no longer crosspost to Threads.

  • After Musk bought twitter, I left and ended up on a new platform called T2 (later renamed Pebble).

T2 was conceived as a kindness centered platform, and I was a big fan. I championed the platform and did my best to help make it a great place. Unfortunately, T2 didn’t survive.

One thing I learned is that rather than spend my time and energy building up someone else’s platform, I can use my time, energy, and resources to build up my platform (my website and blog).

  • Something I haven’t been very vocal about is the indie web principle of POSSE (Post On your Site, Share Everywhere).

In practice this means you have a website or blog (doesn’t have to be fancy or expensive), you post stuff on there, and then share it on other platforms.

In other words, your website is your platform, and all other platforms are just distribution channels.

  • The thing that’s been bugging me most about being sick this week is the brain fog. 😶‍🌫️
